Embedded Software Engineer | Satellite Modems | Chelmsford

Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer with expertise in Linux for Satellite Modems. As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of embedded software solutions for state-of-the-art satellite modem products. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and debugging C++ code, focusing on Linux kernel and driver development to support various hardware interfaces and peripherals. Proficiency in using Jira, WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), and Git will be essential for seamless collaboration and version control.

Responsibilities and Skills Required:

  1. Design, development, and maintenance of embedded Linux software systems for our satellite modems.
  2. Designing and implementing software components, protocols, and algorithms for satellite modems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and performance requirements.
  3. Optimizing software performance and memory usage.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including firmware and hardware engineers, to define software requirements and system architecture for embedded systems.
  5. Design, develop, and optimize C++ code for embedded applications.
  6. Create Linux kernel drivers and low-level software components to interface with hardware devices and peripherals.
  7. Utilize Jira for issue tracking, task management, and project coordination to ensure timely delivery of software modules.
  8. Employ Git for version control, employing best practices for branching, merging, and code collaboration.
  9. Perform thorough testing, debugging, and validation of software components to identify and resolve defects and compatibility issues.
  10. Participate in code reviews and design discussions to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  11. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in embedded software development and Linux kernel technologies.
  12. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation, including design specifications and user manuals.
  13. Contribute to process improvements and actively participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
  14. Knowledge of IP networking protocols, routing, PPP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, iptables and infrastructure.
  15. Educated to degree level in relevant subject (e.g. software/electronic engineering).
