Job description

The SMH Group is a multi-disciplined professional services company which includes Chartered Accountants, Tax Advisers, Financial Planners and Legal professionals working across nine offices in Sheffield, Chesterfield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate, Huddersfield, and Buxton.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding practice based in our Sheffield office where we will work with you to develop your career, provide you with the guidance and training you require to reach your potential, whilst working alongside highly experienced accountants and other professionals. We offer training both on site and externally.

Job Purpose:

To use your knowledge and skills to deliver a first class service to our clients and provide accounts and audit support to a busy accountancy practice.

Duties to include:
  • Assisting with the management of a portfolio of clients
  • Preparation of basic company financial statements
  • Preparation of interim management accounts
  • Preparation of personal tax returns
  • Preparation of partnership accounts and returns
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns
  • Potential to attend client meetings and interact with directors and business owners
  • Assist with training of apprentices
  • Company Secretarial Duties
  • Preparation of P11ds
  • Any other general accountancy/administrative work as required
  • Completion of audit testing both from office and client premises

Skills and Experience:
  • Preferred to have at least 2-3 years working in an accountancy practice environment.
  • Experience of Sage 50, Xero, Quickbooks, Iris, Sage Business Cloud an advantage

  • Good written and technical Skills
  • Strong Prioritisation and Organisation Skills
  • Ability to Handle Confidential Information

Qualifications:

Must have completed a relevant university degree and be willing to undertake further study.
