To provide support for a 16-year-old young lady who has a Neurological Disorder, Dystonia, and Epilepsy. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Support Worker to provide support for this young lady to enable her to access age-appropriate leisure activities in the local community. She is a sociable person who loves ice skating, shopping, and going for afternoon tea. Support may also take place at her home address when required.

Due to this young lady’s diagnosis, she requires the support of others with all aspects of her daily living. When she is feeling well, she can communicate her thoughts and wishes. Due to experiencing Dystonia (weakness in her limbs and involuntary muscle contractions and spasms), she requires the use of a wheelchair. You will be required to support with the administration of medication, following online training and guidance from the family.

Hours

6 hours per week during term time weeks and 12 hours per week during all school holiday weeks. Days and times to be discussed with applicants at interview.

Rate of pay

1. £13.74 per hour.
2. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.
3. Out of pocket expenses will be met by the employer, e.g. mileage to and from home and activities; and cost of activities agreed in advance with employer.
4. ILG PA Employee Assistance Programme – this will be purchased by your employer after you have completed 6 weeks of employment.

Person Specification

The successful applicant must:

1. have experience and a positive understanding of working with children who have disabilities
2. have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
3. be able to respond positively, confidently, and sensitively to any changes in behaviour
4. have a high degree of initiative
5. be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised
6. be flexible and have a happy, positive, and caring nature
7. respect confidentiality

An Enhanced DBS Check is required, cost to be met by employer. Car driver required and must have business insurance.
