Data Engineer-2

Timeform Sporting Life is one of the biggest sports editorial businesses in the UK. We consume, analyze and package sports data including horse racing, football and greyhounds. Powering front end products for some of the biggest bookmakers, we reach millions of users. Our skilled team of analysts are globally renowned for accuracy, credibility, and judgement.

Working in Technology, this exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to the design, construction, enhancement, and maintenance of digital products and platforms. You will have the experience to challenge the existing with newer suitable solutions that will feed into our future success.

What you'll do

  1. Build and maintain data pipelines that move data from various sources (e.g., databases, APIs, files) into data lakes or warehouses where it can be easily accessed and analysed.
  2. Automate data collection, ensuring continuous availability of fresh, accurate data for business and AI algorithms.
  3. Configure storage solutions (such as cloud storage, data lakes, and data warehouses) that fit the specific requirements.
  4. Regularly review and enhance team workflows, ensuring they support an engaging and productive environment. Encourage open dialogue to refine these processes, recognising diverse work styles and the value they bring to our engineering culture.
  5. Maintain a broad understanding of technical trends and practices, leveraging this knowledge to contribute to solution designs that consider various user needs and accessibility standards.
  6. Engage in knowledge sharing, technical and non-technical discussions, fostering a culture where information is shared in an inclusive manner, welcoming various formats and forums for discussion.
  7. Champion the code release process, ensuring that the transition to production is seamless, well-documented, and accounts for diverse operational needs and perspectives.
How you'll do it

  1. Demonstrate excellent knowledge of data modelling principles, including data lakes and warehousing tools and techniques.
  2. Demonstrate excellent creative problem-solving abilities, and apply innovative solutions to improve data processing and management to unblock yourself and other members of the Squad when challenges arise.
  3. Adapt and embrace new technologies and technical challenges, working in a fast-paced, dynamic and agile organisation.
  4. Support project delivery with pragmatic estimates and progress tracking, supporting other Engineers in this process.
