Building Regulations Principal Designer - Building Control Officer
Oxford or Cambridge (Hybrid Working) | £55,000 - £75,000 DOE |
Our client is looking for experienced Building Control Officers to join our growing team as Building Regulations Principal Designers. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects across multiple sectors, with excellent career progression and training opportunities.

About the Role:

You will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, initially focusing on Non-High-Risk Buildings (NHRBs), with potential involvement in High-Risk Buildings (HRBs) as our expertise develops. Working alongside our Building Surveying, Project Management, and Architectural teams, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Plan checking and raising compliance queries
  2. Design review meetings with project teams
  3. Monitoring and tracking design compliance
  4. Occasional site visits to assess implementation
  5. Evidencing regulatory compliance throughout project stages

Projects you'll be working on include office fit-outs for NatWest, school refurbishments and new builds for the Department for Education, prison projects for the Ministry of Justice, and nuclear fusion buildings for UK Atomic Energy Authority - a diverse mix of small to large-scale developments.

About You:

We are looking for professionals with:

  1. Class 2-4 accreditation (MCABE preferred) - but we're open to more junior candidates looking to develop
  2. 3-5+ years' experience in building control, with an understanding of the Principal Designer role
  3. Strong technical knowledge of Building Regulations and compliance processes
  4. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  5. Enthusiasm for developing and growing this service line within the business

Competitive Salary: £55,000 for Class 2 (3-5 years' experience), rising to £65,000 - £75,000 at Associate Director level
Hybrid Working: Typically 1-2 days in the office, remainder remote
Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays, with the option to buy up to 10 extra days
