Staff Nurse, Band 5, A&E, West Cumberland Hospital - 82.12 hours available

We pride ourselves on the fantastic development of our staff. Currently, the department is going through a lot of exciting changes which is providing opportunities for career development and progression.

We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified nurses (and those due to qualify in 2025).

On appointment, we aim to offer a supernumerary period, departmental induction, and an allocated preceptor. Newly qualified staff will also be invited to join the departmental and trust preceptorship program.

Main duties of the job
  • Manage and provide all aspects of patient care.
  • Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct.
  • Assist other nurses in the team as necessary.
  • Demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing practice and research.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Comply with responsibility to safeguard adults and children, ensuring attendance at appropriate training.
  • Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first and to challenge poor care/practice, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.
  • Maintain accurate records of the care given, ensuring accurate data input into computerised systems.
  • Assist in developing an environment that supports the value of nursing care.
  • Liaise and communicate with members of the nursing and multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in the monitoring of standards of care.
  • Contribute to the continuing development of the unit philosophy.
  • Participate in the Trust clinical governance agenda, leading on a benchmark from the Essence of Care initiative.
  • Ensure that the Trust policies and guidelines relevant to the unit are given due consideration.

The Trust will provide a twelve-month preceptorship period for New to registration Nurses, Midwives, and Allied Health Professionals.

Registered Nurses, Midwives, and Allied Health Professionals returning to practice, moving into new roles, or changing clinical environments, may access an agreed preceptorship period.

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over the following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over the following 3 months.
