An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Sister to join our Community Children's Nursing team. The successful candidate will be a registered Paediatric nurse with community experience who will demonstrate excellent leadership skills. The post holder will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff whilst working to deadlines.


It is an exciting time to join the paediatric team at Walsall due to the expansion and progression of the service. We are leading the way with digital innovation.


The paediatric department comprises of a 21-inpatient ward, a 12 bedded PAU, surgical work, a virtual ward, children community nursing team and outpatient’s department.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide exemplary leadership to the CCN team by providing clinical credibility to the service.
  2. Develop the team and service to ensure the needs of the population are met.
  3. Ensure the Trust’s values are met within the service.
  4. Be visible to all areas within the paediatric and neonatal care group.
  5. Manage and monitor the community children’s nursing (CCN) service.
  6. Function as an expert clinical practitioner within the CCN team, delivering direct patient care while managing, leading, coordinating, and overseeing nursing practice.
  7. Coordinate and monitor all clinical activities within the CCN team.
  8. Ensure efficient and effective utilization of all resources required to deliver optimum quality care to children, young people, and their families who access the CCN service.
  9. Deputize for the Paediatric matron, driving forward evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within the paediatric department.
  10. Provide cover for peers within the Care Group in their absence and partake in the Senior paediatric nurses on-call rota.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.


A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
