Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Workshop Manager to oversee operations at our facility in South Wales and assets throughout the UK. This individual will be responsible for the efficient management and maintenance of our diverse fleet, ensuring the highest standards of performance, safety, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans and schedules for our fleet, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
  2. Prioritise and manage defect repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
  3. Coordinate and oversee daily and weekly workshop tasks to maximise productivity and ensure high-quality outcomes.
  4. Ensure that planned maintenance is conducted based on machine operating hours and adheres to strict quality standards.
  5. Delegate tasks to technicians and maintain a smooth workflow within the workshop.
  6. Maintain adherence to project timelines, ensuring all work is completed to the highest quality standards.
  7. Monitor and control maintenance costs, ensuring compliance with budgetary guidelines.
  8. Collaborate with the SHEQ Manager to enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
  9. Provide training and support to new employees, ensuring they are familiar with our machinery and equipment.
  10. Participate in fault investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent future damage or inefficiencies.
  11. Supervise and manage external repairs to ensure cost control and quality assurance.
  12. Direct liaison with the purchasing department to find optimal solutions according to the situation.
  13. Create continuous improvement in machinery or installations, generating a flow of creative improvements and giving multiple solutions to problems that the client may have.

Requirements:

  1. A relevant qualification in Plant or Machinery Maintenance (or equivalent experience).
  2. Extensive experience working with heavy mobile and fixed plant machinery, including front loading shovels, telehandlers, tractors, terminal tractors, tipping trailers, material handlers, and excavators.
  3. Proven experience managing a busy workshop and effectively allocating tasks to ensure maximum efficiency.
  4. A valid Full UK driving licence.
  5. Strong proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault-finding.
  6. Experience using diagnostic software.
  7. Understanding of safe use of welding and cutting equipment, including Oxy Acetylene, Gas Axe, and MIG/TIG welders.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  9. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  10. IOSH Managing Safely (minimum requirement).

Schedule:

Monday to Friday typically 08:00 – 17:00

Weekend availability as required

Experience:

  1. Minimum 5 years of experience in plant workshop management (required).
  2. Full UK Driving Licence (required)
  3. NVQ Mobile Plant Mechanic (required)
