About the role

Electronic Modular Services (EMS) now has an opportunity for a Firmware and Test Development Engineer in our state-of-the-art Engineering facility in Herne Bay, Kent.

A business division within a larger organization, EMS's main area of expertise is in the development of wire-free radio-linked safety systems. Core products include wireless fire detection and evacuation devices, smoke and heat detectors, sounders, fire panels, wireless networking of control systems, associated desktop configuration tools, and cloud-based services.

You will be part of an international team with a diverse family of products, brands, and services that already have a significant impact on the safety of people around the world.

Working with us will allow you to participate in every aspect of product development – technology research, product innovation, system analysis, defining architecture, code creation, system qualification, and cooperation with test laboratories to deliver and shape the life safety systems of the future.

As part of the firmware team, you will be helping in the following roles:

  1. Specifying and/or implementing test interfaces on new embedded projects.
  2. Implementing automatic and semi-automatic testing using off-the-shelf or bespoke test equipment.
  3. Development and implementation of unit test framework.
  4. Specification, design, and implementation of firmware for new product development.

A successful candidate will have good knowledge of standard lab test equipment and at least one of the following programming languages:

  1. C/C++/C#
  2. Python
  3. LabVIEW

The following skills are useful, but training will be given where required:

  1. Ability to read schematics.
  2. Use of spectrum analyzers.
  3. Use of source code repository GIT.
  4. MS Office Applications.

Salary based on candidate’s experience.
