Job description

A leading law firm in Newton Abbot is seeking a pro-active and organised individual to join their Employment Department in a Developing Admin / Assistant. This is a developing role suited to someone with strong administrative skills, an interest in the legal field, or, ideally, prior legal experience. The firm offers a supportive and collaborative working environment, providing an excellent opportunity for growth and development in the legal profession. The preference is for a full-time commitment, though flexible arrangements may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Employment Department, assisting with case management, client communication, and general office duties.
  • Prepare and format legal documents, including correspondence, contracts, and other employment-related paperwork.
  • Manage and organise client files, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and easily accessible.
  • Assist with diary management, scheduling meetings, and co-ordinating appointments for solicitors and clients.
  • Handle general office tasks such as answering phones, responding to emails, and dealing with inquiries.
  • Support the team with research tasks related to employment law matters.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies, confidentiality, and data protection regulations.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven administrative experience, ideally within a professional or legal environment.
  • A keen interest in employment law or previous exposure to legal work would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and general IT literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Discretion and professionalism in dealing with confidential information.

Desirable:

  • Experience or an interest in law.
  • Previous legal assistant or administrative support experience in a law firm is an advantage but not essential.
