An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer - Cleanroom Supervisor to join our team. This is a progression band 3 to band 4 post, and training will be provided in house. For this role you will be working in a pharmacy cleanroom, and so previous experience of working in a lab or cleanroom environment is desirable. We are looking for an excellent team player with strong organisational skills who is highly motivated and with a practical knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice.

The candidate will be required to work within a team of Pharmacists, Pharmacy technicians, Quality assurance specialists, Senior assistant technical officers and assistant technical officers. The candidate will be required to effectively communicate across all these staffing groups.

Full training in departmental procedures will be given. The successful candidate will train towards gaining the South West pre and in-process Checking Accreditation if not already achieved.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be expected to:

  • Support the aseptic manufacture of medicines using aseptic technique in pharmaceutical isolators and laminar flow cabinets, following validated methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform a range of organisational, supervisory and manufacturing functions within the pharmacy aseptic unit in order to provide an efficient and quality service.
  • Be responsible for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant supervision in the aseptic suite for MS licensed manufacture and section 10 preparation of medicines in the UHBW pharmacy production unit.
  • Supervise both SATOs and technicians during the manufacture of aseptic products and carry out production of Aseptic intravenous products and eye drops, using aseptic technique and working within a strictly controlled environment in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice.
  • The post holder will perform pre and in-process checks on all aseptic products manufactured/prepared in the unit.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

  • GCSE English language, mathematics, science (Grade C/ Level 4 or above) or equivalent
  • Willingness to complete or have relevant courses including: BTEC Level 2: Unit 7 – Principles of Safe Preparation and Manufacturing of Medicines and Medicinal Products
  • Pre-and in Process Checking Qualification (PIPC) or willingness to complete
  • Cleanroom Supervision in Pharmacy Technical Services

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of working to a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience of staff supervision or line management
  • Experience of stock control and rotation
  • Experience of cleanroom supervision
  • Experience working to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Knowledge of aseptic procedures and aseptic technique
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice
