Job description

Formula 1 covers a huge range of disciplines across a wide array of industry sectors, drawing the very best from our teams of technicians, engineers and media rights specialists and encouraging the creativity of experts in the fields of digital and traditional media, marketing and communications. From timekeeping, to software development, broadcast engineering and content creation, we are truly the 11th Formula 1 team.

We are recruiting for a Electronics Engineer for our Onboard Camera team who would be based at our Media and Technology Centre in Biggin Hill. Do you have what it takes to be part of the world’s greatest sport and entertainment spectacle?

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and help develop the OBC system, ensuring it remains in the highest working order and all aspects of the system meet the standards required to run on a Formula One car.

  • Service all relevant electronic and mechanical components between races, either at Biggin Hill or at the circuit, ensuring that each part of the system is in optimum condition before being used again at the next race.

  • Install the Onboard Camera (OBC) system on to each Formula One car, ensuring it conforms to the highest levels of safety.

  • Perform a role, as required, in the Broadcast Centre at races assisting with the fault finding and repair of the On Board Camera system as well as helping to provide high quality footage for the FOM TV output.

  • Ensure stock levels are maintained as per the on board camera requirements.

  • Proactive in maintaining and developing the OBC electronic systems, you will be required to provide guidance and assistance to the other OBC technicians and engineers as and when necessary.

  • Be involved in pre-season testing of camera ‘on car’ installations as and when required which may involve visiting Teams or attending pre-season tests.

  • Ensure detailed records are kept of the history of each electronic component along with faults and service history to enable accurate fault diagnosis.

  • Be involved in projects with a view to developing OBC electronic systems.

  • Build, design and dismantle the OBC workshop at every F1 event whenever necessary.

Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational electronic engineering qualifications.

Experience

  • Specific and relevant electronics engineering experience is essential with a proven, demonstrable track record.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of PCB design and manufacture.

  • Excellent demonstrable working knowledge of RF transmissions.

  • Fine attention to detail in assembly and application.

  • Soldering and component assembly.

  • Ability to fault find and diagnose system failures essential.

  • Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team.

  • High degree of computer literacy.

  • Ability to write reports and keep accurate and detailed records for fault analysis.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent communication skills.
