Job description

Amentum Defence and Security provide design and engineering services for our nuclear and defence clients across the UK and abroad. Our team is experiencing exciting growth and long-term prospects within our established practice, and we are looking for a Senior Architect with transferable skills who are passionate about developing themselves and in meeting new challenges. We offer hybrid working with the main location being flexible with most of the work able to be carried out from home, with visits to sites potentially required. We have base offices in Reading, Bristol and Glasgow.

About the opportunity:

Our interesting projects include developing solutions through all RIBA stages in highly regulated environments, in support of air, land and sea defence establishments, the UK nuclear submarine fleet, and both existing and new build nuclear power stations.

You will preferably have experience of working in a relevant industrial design market and looking to work in a technically challenging environment. We're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align with every requirement in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of architectural design, assessment studies and technical documentation through all RIBA stages
  • Technical and professional guidance, support and development of the necessary design work
  • Communication and co-ordination with other design team members
  • Assisting in the delivery of complex design projects
  • Attendance of technical and non-technical meetings to report and present technical issues
  • Adherence and contribution to business and quality management systems, operational and design safety, and developing good safety culture

We’ll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow. We offer an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

People are our greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent. In addition to the benefits you’d expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships. We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for us. We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Broad experience in industrial and/or highly regulated design sectors
  • Good all-round technical design expertise to British and international regulations and standards
  • Experience in the preparation and delivery of drawing packages and key project deliverables
  • Ability to lead design aspects of projects including managing quality, budget, programme and resources
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team
  • Good level of proficiency in Autodesk Revit and a wider understanding of BIM Level 2
  • Ideally ARB Registered
