Job Description

The Chubb Middle Market Property & Package team underwrite business for customers with a turnover typically less than $500m. The team operates out of the Chubb London office and writes business in both the UKI and Multinational sectors. Continuing profitable growth is a key priority for the business, with a focus on aligning the changing needs and wants of customers with sound underwriting judgement and risk selection.

With dedicated market leading experienced professionals, the Middle Market Property & Package team is primed for further growth and we are now seeking a Senior Underwriter to join the team.

Role Purpose

To influence, implement and achieve underwriting profit goals in Middle Market Property & Package risks in accordance with the business plan. To ensure underwriting integrity through appropriate deployment of capacity whilst working within Chubb’s underwriting guidelines and controls. Be consistent in approach towards risk selection, pricing and use of capacity whilst recognising and responding to market conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite new business and renewals according to defined underwriting guidelines, specified budget and local business plan.
  • Day to day management of an agreed broker panel across new and renewal business.
  • Assist in formulating underwriting strategy, forecasts and portfolio management in order to achieve underwriting profitability.
  • Ensure quality control within defined area of responsibility by undertaking quantitative underwriting reviews and peer reviews.
  • Work closely with underwriters in other lines of business across the UK&I to maximise cross-sell opportunities.
  • Prioritise and develop products within area of specialist expertise in order to improve client retention and new business. This may involve collaborating with peers within and across business lines in Europe as well as globally.
  • Represent and promote Chubb corporately to brokers, internal and external clients domestically and overseas. This may involve servicing key producers and clients, monitoring business acquisition and retention.
  • Meet company standards in respect of policy documentation, timeframes for quoting new and renewal business and compliance rules.
  • Work within the framework of Chubb ethical and service standards.
Qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of underwriting Commercial Property & Package business.
  • A good working knowledge of Multinational Underwriting, the insurance market and competitors.
  • Experienced Property and Casualty underwriter within the package space.
  • Solid experience of dealing with brokers and clients.
  • Results driven with ability to make own decisions and work on own initiative.
  • Adaptable and resilient to changes in market conditions and business requirements.
  • An experienced professional who is recognised externally.
  • Excellent attention to detail with experience using complex pricing and risk selection tools.
  • Experience of training, mentoring and people development is desired.
  • Continues to develop technical and broader business skills.
  • Strong team player and ability to build strong relationships quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills.
  • ACII preferred.
