Chief Technology Officer

Role: CTO

Location: UK (Southampton, London, or Remote within UK/EU)

Salary: Depending on experience

As CTO, you will be responsible for AVASK’s technology vision, strategy, and execution. You will lead engineering, data, and security teams, oversee the evolution and growth of our proprietary compliance platform, and drive AI-driven automation for VAT, EPR, and tax services.

The ideal candidate is a tech-driven business leader with a strong background in SaaS, cloud infrastructure (Azure), FinTech, and compliance automation. You will work closely with product, operations, and executive leadership to ensure AVASK’s technology is scalable, secure, and aligned with business growth objectives.

CTO - Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Leadership

• Define and execute a technology roadmap that aligns with AVASK’s CaaS+ vision.
• Lead the development and scaling of AVASK’s self-serve compliance platform, integrating AI, automation, and real-time data analytics.
• Drive a culture of innovation, agility, ownership, and high performance within the engineering and technology teams.
• Provide strategic direction on build vs. buy decisions, including M&A opportunities for tech expansion.

Platform & Engineering Leadership

• Oversee the scalability, security, and architecture of AVASK’s Azure-based infrastructure.
• Implement best-in-class DevOps, CI/CD, and software development practices.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, scalability, maintainability, and performance of customer-facing and internal applications.
• Partner with product management to align engineering efforts with business needs.

Data & AI-Driven Compliance Innovation

• Lead the development of AI-powered compliance solutions (e.g., VAT automation, fraud detection, EPR reporting).
• Establish a data-driven decision-making culture, leveraging BI, analytics, and predictive modeling.
• Integrate data from various 3rd party and proprietary systems to provide actionable business intelligence.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

• Work with the IT leadership to ensure GDPR compliance, data privacy, and security best practices across all platforms.
• Implement robust authentication, encryption, and fraud detection measures.
• Stay ahead of regulatory changes and ensure technology adapts to global compliance requirements.

Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Build and scale a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
• Drive recruitment, mentoring, and leadership development within the tech organization.
• Work closely with finance, operations, and customer success to align technology with business KPIs and customer experience goals.

CTO - Key Qualifications

• 10+ years in technology leadership roles, including CTO, VP of Engineering, or Head of Technology in SaaS, FinTech, RegTech, or compliance-heavy industries.
• Proven experience building and scaling SaaS platforms with a B2B or B2B2C model.
• Strong expertise in Azure cloud architecture, microservices, and API-first development.
• Familiarity with data engineering, machine learning, and AI-driven automation trends.
• Experience leading distributed teams and managing remote-first engineering organizations.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience in tax, e-commerce compliance, or payments technology.
• Strong financial acumen – ability to balance engineering costs vs. business impact.
• M&A experience in assessing tech integrations and acquisitions.
