Job Title: Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Gosport, Hampshire
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work in a primary or secondary school setting in Gosport, Hampshire. Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant (TA), a recent graduate, or a university student looking to gain valuable experience in education, this opportunity could be perfect for you!

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant (TA) in a secondary mainstream school, you will provide essential support to both students and teachers, ensuring a positive and engaging learning environment. You will work closely with students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This role is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in education, particularly if you are considering a future career in teaching or child development.

Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant (TA):

  • Support students in the classroom, working alongside teachers to enhance learning experiences.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students who require additional assistance.
  • Assist with lesson preparation, classroom activities, and behaviour management.
  • Work with students with special educational needs (SEN), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, or those who require extra academic support.
  • Encourage and motivate students, helping them build confidence and independence.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring all students feel supported.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and support staff.

Requirements of the Teaching Assistant (TA):

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational support role.
  • Knowledge of the curriculum and effective teaching support strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • If you are a university student considering a career in education, this role offers excellent first-hand experience.
  • Patience, empathy and an understanding of how to support children’s individual needs.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate) is desirable but not essential.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
