Job description

We are looking for a highly skilled Quality Engineer to oversee and enhance the quality of our operational processes and outputs.

In this role at Spire, you will take charge of conducting detailed process audits, troubleshooting and resolving issues related to materials, equipment, processes, and products. You will be responsible for developing and implementing robust quality control systems, as well as driving corrective actions to address any discrepancies.

The Quality Engineer will collaborate closely with managers and team leads to implement effective quality measures within their respective teams.

To excel as a Quality Engineer at Spire, the ideal candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving abilities, ensuring that all processes and products consistently meet or exceed established quality standards.

What You'll Do as a Quality Engineer:

  1. Internal Quality Management: Lead the resolution of nonconformances through Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) processes, both in our cleanroom and on operational satellites. Monitor, evaluate, and report on in-process quality performance.
  2. Supplier Quality Management: Manage nonconformance issues with suppliers, track and report on supplier performance, review documentation, and serve as a liaison for engineering inquiries.
  3. Quality Management System (QMS): Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to QMS documentation to support continuous improvement and compliance.
  4. Auditing: Conduct internal audits in accordance with ISO 9001 standards and participate in external supplier audits to ensure quality standards are met.
  5. Engineering Change Notifications (ECN): Assist in the validation of engineering changes to our spacecraft, and their implementation.
  6. Documentation: Support the creation and modification of Quality Control Notices (QCNs), manufacturing workflows, and work instructions to ensure accurate and efficient processes.
  7. Calibration: Oversee the management and accuracy of the Spire equipment database, ensuring all instruments are properly calibrated.
  8. Inspection: Provide support for inspection activities as needed to ensure incoming goods meet quality standards.
  9. Continuous Improvement: Actively contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance quality and operational efficiency.
Key Skills:
  1. HND in Engineering: Relevant qualification in an engineering discipline.
  2. Quality Engineering Experience: Proven background in a Quality Engineering role, preferably in manufacturing or engineering.
  3. RCCA Expertise: Skilled in driving RCCA processes to resolution, utilizing methodologies such as 8D, Ishikawa diagrams, FMEA and Pareto analysis.
  4. ISO 9001:2015 Knowledge: Strong understanding of ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  5. Fast-Paced Environment: Experience working in a dynamic setting where adaptability and problem-solving are key.
  6. Communication & IT Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and effective in both verbal and written communication.
Preferred Skills:
  1. ISO 9001:2105 Internal Auditor Certification
  2. IPC-A-610 Certification
  3. Ability to read Mechanical & Schematic Drawings
  4. Experience in aerospace, defence or similar high technology industry

Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses-this is not something candidates need to have before applying.
