Job description

We are supporting an East Kent client from within the education sector in the recruitment of a permanent Finance Manager.


Your daily commute will see you living in one of the following towns - Sittingbourne, Dover, Canterbury, Ashford, Maidstone, Herne Bay, Whitstable or Thanet area.


The package includes a competitive salary, hybrid working 1 day a week, 25 days annual leave + bank holidays and a fantastic working environment.


The role will include work on year-end accounts, VAT submissions, creating budgets/variances and overseeing the organisation's financial processes.


Key responsibilities will include:
  1. Establishing financial systems to maintain/monitor the effective operation of the organisation.
  2. Produce strategic business plans, providing advice and expertise on finance matters.
  3. Produce statutory annual accounts and preparation of annual budgets.
  4. Produce finance monitoring reports, including income/expenditure against agreed targets.
  5. Manage the VAT accounting and returns.
  6. Prepare three-year financial forecasts for recommendation.
  7. Control and manage the debtors.
  8. Maintain the fixed asset register and cash flow.
  9. Manage all contracts including tendering, T&Cs and ensuring quality of service/cost.
  10. Prepare data for staff salaries ready for the payroll company.
  11. Prepare for annual financial audits, liaising with External Auditors.
  12. Manage the purchasing of all goods and services with proficiency.
  13. Management of a member of the finance team.

To be proficient in this role, you will need:
  1. Professional accounting qualification (full or part qualified).
  2. Accounting/Finance experience within the education sector is an advantage but not essential.
  3. Proven experience in producing financial forecasts, budgets, management reports, cash flow and other financial analysis.
  4. Experience of managing VAT accounts and returns.
  5. Ability to manage a diverse workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  6. Self-motivated, with an enthusiasm for continuous service improvement/personal development.
  7. UK driving license.

The successful candidate is expected to undertake a DBS for this position.
