The Role & Key Responsibilities

Job Title: Laboratory Assistant

Location: Hengoed, Wales, United Kingdom

Contract: Permanent

AB Vista Laboratory Services, operating from laboratories in Hengoed, Wales, United Kingdom, is looking for a skilled laboratory assistant to join our team. This is an entry-level role in which we hope to find a positive, efficient worker with an interest in science!

An AB Vista Laboratory Assistant supports the overall running of the laboratory by performing tasks such as:

Sample preparation, including:

• Logging of samples into our laboratory information management system (LIMS)
• Milling/Grinding/Mixing samples
• Weighing samples

Buffer Preparation

• Daily and monthly checking and calibration of balances, pH meters, and pipettes
• Scanning of animal feedstuffs using Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR)

To thrive in this role, we are looking for someone with:

• Interest in biology, chemistry, or agricultural sciences
• Effective ability to communicate and work well with a team
• High attention to detail with the ability to follow both written and verbal technical instructions
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage time and priorities wisely
• Previous experience with Microsoft Suite and SharePoint, proficient computer skills required

Physical Requirements

• No allergies to animal feedstuff ingredients (e.g., wheat)
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to handle at least 5L of liquid (approx. 5kg)

Location

Our lab is conveniently located, approximately 10 minutes’ walk from Ystrad Mynach rail station and in reasonable driving distance of Caerphilly and Cardiff.
