The Role

The Vice Principal Academic will sit on the College’s Senior Leadership Team, and will direct the College’s vision of academic excellence to our staff and students and ensure its effective implementation.

As a member of the College’s Senior Leadership Team, they will be expected to be involved in, and to make a proactive contribution to, all aspects of the life of the College, supporting and where appropriate representing the Principal in all aspects of school leadership. This includes crucial contributions to the College’s leadership and strategic development, identifying and taking every possible opportunity to improve, enhance and further the College’s educational, academic and super curricular provision.

More specifically, the Vice Principal Academic will lead on:

  1. Supporting and where appropriate representing the Principal in all aspects of school leadership;
  2. Sharing with the SLT overall responsibility for all aspects of academic policy, planning and leadership;
  3. Leading on all aspects of the academic life of OIC, to ensure excellent teaching and learning and that students fulfil their academic potential.

The associated duties and responsibilities of this position can, generally, be broken down into: Teaching and Learning; Leadership and Management and Staffing. The expectations of the role should be read as indicative rather than exhaustive. There may be some expectation to teach a limited number of academic lessons, subject to the needs of the College.

In a broad sense, the associated duties and responsibilities for this position are set out below, although you can expect to be tasked, from time to time, with additional responsibilities within your capacity and expertise. Such variations are a common occurrence and cannot of themselves justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post.
