An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacy technician to join the Pharmacy Procurement and Invoicing team at Barts Health NHS Trust. We are looking for a dedicated team player, with excellent communication and organisational skills, someone who strives to provide a high quality and efficient service to our patients and the wider organisation.

The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health is one of the largest in the country and covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services from our five hospital sites across the City of London, East and Northeast London.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Pharmacy Technician for Procurement & Invoicing will be responsible for:

  1. Assisting the Lead Procurement and Contracts Pharmacy Technician in daily operations.
  2. Supporting the implementation of pharmacy contracts and facilitating the ordering of medications.
  3. Collaborating with the lead to optimise pharmacy stock levels, minimise wastage while ensuring adequate stock availability for patient needs.
  4. Contributing to the training and development initiatives for the invoicing and procurement teams.
  5. Supervise, train, and appraise pharmacy staff working within the procurement and invoicing team, ensuring they are well-equipped to fulfil their responsibilities effectively.
  6. Deputise for the Lead Procurement & Invoicing Pharmacy Technician.

Purchasing & Invoicing

  1. Support the purchasing of medicines, including medical gases and unlicensed medicines.
  2. Assist in medicines shortage management.
  3. Participate in procurement cost improvement programmes.
  4. Ensure the timely processing of invoices and conduct supplier reconciliations.
  5. Working with the accounts payable teams to find resolutions to invoice queries.
  6. Supporting with monthly KPI submissions.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, clinical staff and other operational leads.

The successful candidate will be based at the Royal London hospital but may be required to work at any of the Barts Health NHS Trust sites.

Qualifications
  • BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC
  • CIPS L4 and above or willingness to work towards
  • GDP course or willingness to complete
  • Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
Experience
  • Significant experience as a pharmacy technician
  • Significant experience working in an acute NHS hospital setting
  • Experience in training/supervising staff
  • Experience in completing audits and implementing change
  • Use of Datix incident reporting system or equivalent
  • Procedure development and review
  • Training of Pharmacy staff
  • Experience using pharmacy stock management systems (CMM)
  • Evidence of successful design and implementation of new supply processes

Knowledge
  • Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
