System Administrator

Fully Remote | £45,000–£55,000 | Full-Time | Security & Compliance | AWS

My insurance client are looking for a capable System Administrator to take ownership of our infrastructure and cloud environment, with a particular emphasis on AWS system administration. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be instrumental in maintaining secure, high-performing systems while helping to drive cost efficiency, automation, and compliance across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing

System Administration

  • Maintain and secure cloud-based systems and infrastructure (primarily AWS)
  • Configure and optimise services such as virtual servers, networking, monitoring tools, and cloud databases
  • Manage and apply software patches, service upgrades, and infrastructure hardening
  • Automate processes using tools like CloudFormation, scripting (Bash/Python), and CI/CD
  • Monitor system health and performance, resolve incidents, and ensure high availability
  • Provide technical support and knowledge sharing across internal teams
  • Own configuration management and contribute to cost-effective service improvements

System Security & Compliance

  • Contribute to internal security policies, incident response planning, and compliance monitoring
  • Assist in security audits, vulnerability assessments, and reporting
  • Support external security engagements and manage secure client environments
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes, cloud security practices, and industry trends

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong AWS cloud infrastructure experience (EC2, RDS, VPC, WAF, Lambda, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation)
  • Good grasp of infrastructure security and governance (e.g. AWS Config, Security Hub)
  • Familiarity with cost optimisation, drift remediation, and secure automation
  • Proficiency with Linux systems, scripting (Bash, Python/Boto3), and Git
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a passion for system performance and uptime
  • Bonus: Experience with GDPR or compliance frameworks is a plus

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves to keep systems secure, automate everything possible, and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty in AWS.
