HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.

We have an opportunity within HSBC Asset Management business for an Associate Director – UK Insurance Sales.

The UK Institutional Insurance sector represents a significant opportunity for HSBC’s UK Asset Management business given the number of relevant investment capabilities. The Institutional Insurance sector has a specialised sales coverage model provided by colleagues who can adequately position our capabilities within an insurance regulatory framework.

In the early phase of the role you will support the Head of Global Insurance developing the UK insurance business before moving to full portfolio management of tier 2/3 Institutional Insurance clients. You will engage with Institutional Insurance clients to ensure that we are meeting their needs and uncover new commercial opportunities via a proactive sales origination strategy.

In this role you will:

  1. Originate sales opportunities across the full range of Asset Management products with an emphasis on Alternatives within the Institutional Insurance clients segment and deliver the agreed financial and performance objectives e.g., revenue growth, client acquisition and retention.
  2. Implement the appropriate sales strategies required to ensure successful and beneficial client meetings including preparing financial reports and compelling presentations for the client.
  3. Use commercial acumen to assess and analyse sales opportunities in order to create an ongoing sales pipeline of short-, medium- and long-term deals.
  4. Collaborate with other specialist sales colleagues across HSBC Asset Management landscape to create a joined-up approach and leverage their SME product knowledge to be able to showcase the wide range of investment solutions and gain credibility within the Institutional Insurance client base.
  5. Ensure that all Institutional business activity conform to HSBC Asset Management best practice standards and regulatory requirements and uphold the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, HSBC Global Asset Management’s TCF philosophy.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  1. Solid knowledge and experience of Asset Management products and relevant investment strategies.
  2. Possess extremely strong stakeholder management skills that engenders a ‘Trusted Advisor’ status within a varied stakeholder group that includes Chief Investment Officer, Chief Financial Officer and very senior Fund Managers.
  3. Advanced Commercial capabilities related to gathering, analysing, preparing and presenting reports to aid investment strategy decision making.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the capability to distil large amounts of data and info into easily digestible presentations and other content.
  5. Extremely well organised and takes a pragmatic approach to dealing with demands on your time and managing tasks with conflicting priorities.
  6. Experience of Alternative Asset products, Institutional investors or the Institutional Insurance space is desirable.

This role is based in London and has a hybrid working pattern and also has a significant level of travel.
