Job description

An exciting and interesting opportunity has arisen in the Urology Centre for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our team of expert and innovative Urologists, CNSs, nurses, and researchers. This position will help you to build knowledge and to develop the experience and skills in order for you to further your career within Urology. We are a busy unit with a worldwide reputation. In this role, you will support the clinicians, carry out a range of diagnostic procedures, and run nurse-led clinics. We are seeking a nurse with vision and dedication, who has nursing experience with particular expertise in urology. If you are a hard-working, patient-focused, good team player with a professional approach to interdisciplinary working, we would like to hear from you.


Main duties of the job


The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, and provision of specialist nursing advice and carry out specialist nursing procedures. They will be required to support the team in the smooth running of all clinics and to maintain a safe working environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and teaching junior colleagues to develop their skills and knowledge.

Job responsibilities


The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, and provision of specialist nursing advice and carry out specialist nursing procedures such as trial without catheter, teaching ISC, administering intra-vesical chemotherapy, and assisting with flexi-cystoscopy. The position requires the post holder to support junior colleagues, mentor students, and to be a supportive role model at all times. The post holder will ensure the safety and well-being of service users and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles. Knowledge


Essential


  1. RGN level 1
  2. Mentorship qualification
  3. Evidence of ongoing professional development
  4. Knowledge of basic urology procedures, tests, conditions.

Desirable


  1. Urology Course
  2. Leadership course e.g. passport to management

Skills


Essential


  1. Phlebotomy + Cannulation
  2. Demonstrates urology expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD
  3. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialist care and information delivered to patients and relatives
  4. Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of acutely ill & other challenging situations
  5. Urethral catheterization of males and females

Desirable


  1. Administration of Intravesical chemotherapy
  2. Advanced communication skills (sage and thyme)
  3. Knowledge of urodynamics
  4. Administration of intravesical treatments for painful bladder + recurring urine infections
  5. Supra pubic catheterisation
  6. Evidence of teaching ISC

Experience


Essential


  1. Evidence of knowledge and experience within Urology in acute setting
  2. Evidence of mentoring/ SSAP
  3. Evidence of leadership - managing unit
  4. Evidence of teamwork and working autonomously

Desirable


  1. Previous outpatient experience
  2. Evidence of participation in audits, MDT, service improvement
