Job description

Field Service Engineer

Location: Derbyshire

Salary: GBP40,000 + Car Allowance (OTE GBP45k)

The Company

Our client designs, manufactures and installs bespoke mechanical process equipment and systems for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors. The company has a trading history dating back over 200 years and has grown from 100 to 250 staff in the past ten years.

As part of the business growth plans, they are currently looking to expand their service team by recruiting two additional Field Service Engineers. The role will mainly consist of carrying out inspections of installed products at customer sites and performing PPMs and any follow-up work from inspections.

This is a great opportunity to join a growing service team in a field service role that will require minimal reactive or breakdown work.

The Role

The Field Service Engineer role will mainly consist of carrying out inspections of products and systems installed with their customer base. These inspections will include:

  • Checking Gearbox Oil Levels
  • Checking alignments on gearboxes
  • Checking bolt tightness
  • Checking gaskets
  • Checking critical welds on lifting mechanisms
  • Checking bearings/shafts for wear
  • Checking mechanical seals for leaks or wear
  • Checking limit switches

You will be required to compile reports from these inspections recommending any follow-up servicing and repair work needed. You will also be responsible for performing PPMs on equipment under service contracts with customers. The work will be spread throughout the UK, with most inspection and service work carried out over one to two-day visits to customer sites.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Field Service Engineer role, you will need:

  • Mechanical fitting skills
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Some fabrication skills for repair work
  • The ability to fault find and repair mechanical systems
  • Basic electrical fault-finding exposure
  • Willingness to travel and work throughout the UK
  • A commercially minded approach to spot new opportunities with customers during site visits
