About the Company: Global Education Provider

About the Role: A global education provider is seeking a Legal Counsel, Data Protection Officer to join its legal team. This role is ideal for a qualified lawyer with strong data protection expertise and commercial and corporate experience, who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The role is primarily remote, with occasional in-office requirements in London.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Protection & Compliance:
  • Act as the Data Protection Officer (DPO), ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and other relevant privacy laws.
  • Provide strategic advice on data privacy matters, including data processing agreements, international data transfers, marketing practices, and data subject rights.
  • Develop and implement privacy policies, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and training programs for internal teams.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure proactive compliance with evolving data protection laws.
  • Respond to data breaches, ICO inquiries, and internal investigations related to privacy and data security.
  • Commercial & Corporate Legal Work:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including service agreements, technology contracts, and partnership agreements.
  • Advise on corporate governance, compliance, and risk management within an international education environment.
  • Support the business in M&A transactions, joint ventures, and commercial partnerships.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including IT, HR, and Marketing, to provide legal guidance on data privacy and business operations.

Qualifications: England & Wales-qualified solicitor with 4+ years PQE, ideally from private practice (top-tier firm experience preferred).

Required Skills:

  • Strong data protection expertise with in-depth knowledge of UK GDPR and data protection regulations.
  • Proven experience in commercial and corporate law, including contract negotiation and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal issues for non-legal stakeholders.
