Job description

Overview

As a Production Group Leader, you will be the first line leader to support team members within your area/zone. Oversee daily operations, ensure that team activities align with company goals, objectives, and scheduled production requirements to ensure your team is successful.

This position will be on 2nd Shift, Monday through Thursday, 3:00pm to 1:00am. There may be occasional overtime required on Fridays from 1:00pm to 9:00pm.

Responsibilities

Primary duties:

  • Creates an environment of continuous improvement by: Identify and implement process improvements to optimize efficiency and enhance productivity within the department.
  • Champion who leads by example to ensure/enforce compliance with all safety regulations, procedures and company policies to provide a safe working environment for all team members. Conduct regular safety audits and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Embrace a servant leadership approach by promoting a culture of trust, collaboration, and empowerment by prioritizing the needs of team members, active listening and removing obstacles that may prevent them from effective growth and performance. Empowers and expects team members to take responsibility and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a mentor and coach by offering guidance and support to team members, fostering an environment of learning and development.
  • Fostering a positive, respectful and inclusive work environment of all team members in every discussion, interaction and decision.
  • Facilitate effective communication within assigned department team and with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Analyze Key Performance metrics to identify areas of improvement and implement solutions.
  • Establish annual goals and objectives that support the attainment of Key Performance metrics.
  • Desires to eliminate waste and to develop team member skill to improve lean operations.
  • Ensure that employees are properly trained by their Team Leader or other designated trainer in the areas of safety, quality, equipment operation and 5S.
  • Interface with technical staff to ensure proper support.
  • Work to continuously improve processes and reduce inventories and work in progress.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees regarding employee relations issues.
  • Interface with Union Stewards in contract and discipline issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience/Education:

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience in a medium/high volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Manufacturing Engineering or Operations is preferred.
  • Proven history of ability to lead with a servant leadership mindset.
  • Previous professional, internship or co-op experience will be taken into consideration as relevant experience.
  • Previous experience working in Fabrication and/or Welding preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be self-driven and ambitious with proven leadership capabilities, including providing coaching, mentoring and supervision within a team environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Strong problem solving skills, including encouraging others on your team to think proactively and create solutions.
  • Basic understanding of process control, production scheduling, Kaizen, Kanban and Lean manufacturing is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stooping, bending, standing for long periods of time, manual dexterity and able to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
