An innovative opportunity awaits at a thriving organic farm in Bristol, seeking a head grower/vegetable manager. This role offers the chance to develop vegetable fields, expand production in polytunnels, and oversee fruit and orchard management. You will have the freedom to implement your own ideas and explore new markets, with the potential to combine this with animal husbandry. Join a friendly community focused on entrepreneurship and sustainability, where your contributions will directly impact the farm's growth and success. If you have a passion for organic farming and a vision for development, this position is perfect for you.
Radford Mill Farm is an organic farm of 115 acres, the majority of which is currently used for grazing and hay. In addition to this, there is currently 1 acre under polytunnels, 2 acres of field vegetables, an apple orchard, and a fruit field.
A separately owned egg business operates from the farm, as do a number of other small businesses which lease land or workshops on the farm.
Turkeys are raised for Christmas, and we have a flock of Wiltshire Horn sheep.
Produce is sold through our own farm shop in Bristol and other outlets, as well as a small local box scheme. Plans for an onsite farm shop are also under discussion.
The farm runs events, including catering for 3 small music festivals, weddings, and camps at which farm produce is promoted.
A head grower / vegetable manager is required to develop the vegetable fields, expand the salads and other vegetables growing in the polytunnels, and oversee the orchard and fruit growing. There is also scope for someone to develop their own ideas for growing and focus on new or specific markets. There is the option to combine this with some animal husbandry if you wish. We are seeking an innovative person with prior proven experience of vegetable growing and new ideas for development.
There is space to expand the business and, in the long term, the opportunity to take on a lease and run your own business.
A basic salary will depend on the level of experience, plus performance-related pay:
a) related to productivity targets to be agreed annually
b) related to specific project development to be agreed annually
A two-bed cottage is available as part of the remuneration package.
We are a friendly community of people of varied ages and interests with a number of young businesses running from the site, and we are keen to foster entrepreneurship and community involvement.
