Role: Grounds Maintenance Apprentice
Salary: £15,017.18
Contract: Fixed Term Contract 2 Years
Location:Tonbridge

The Role

Are you eager to learn and develop new skills in horticulture? Do you enjoy working outdoors and contributing to the beauty of green spaces? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are currently recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Apprentice to join our Landscape Services team. You’ll be assisting in the delivery of grounds maintenance and soft landscaping services, gaining practical experience while working alongside a supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in horticulture, work with specialised equipment, and achieve a recognised qualification.

As an apprentice, you will assist with various outdoor services, including mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, weed control, and more. You’ll receive both practical on-the-job training and attend college or relevant courses to work towards your NVQ or equivalent qualification.

Key Duties:

  • Assist in general grounds maintenance tasks under the guidance of a mentor, ensuring work is completed to meet contract specifications and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of customer care, including communication both verbal and written.
  • Care for, inspect, and maintain the machinery and equipment used, ensuring everything is safe and in working order.
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with health and safety standards at all times, reporting any issues to your mentor.
  • Undertake company training and development to progress within the role.
  • Work across various sites, including schools, open spaces, and sports grounds, contributing to the aesthetic and environmental quality of these areas.
  • Use company systems and tools to record daily site activities and document your learning.
  • Participate in college-based or on-site courses to work towards an NVQ qualification.
  • Manage your time effectively to balance practical and theoretical learning alongside work tasks.

What we need from you:

  • A keen interest in horticulture and landscaping
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and develop industry knowledge
  • A positive and proactive attitude, with a strong focus on health and safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both customers and team members
  • Be flexible with weekend work on a rota basis
  • A willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • A current, clean provisional driving licence (preferred but not mandatory)
