Job description

About the job:

My client is looking for a Chief Environmental Engineer to form the core of a newly created environmental team.

You will work primarily on supporting onshore projects through their complex planning and consenting process, and offshore projects as required supporting clients across the UK, providing environmental engineering expertise.

Their UK Consulting team provides engineering services from initial advice through all of the project lifecycle stages to execution and operational support and decommissioning across three main markets in oil and gas, offshore wind and low carbon – including hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage and waste to value projects.

The UK energy market faces an unprecedented rate of change, as our clients aim to deliver energy security in tandem with decarbonising the system: consequently, our multi-disciplinary teams are extremely busy.

Many of the projects, particularly new onshore assets, and offshore wind projects, and their electrical and gas grid connections, face significant planning and consenting hurdles, and we believe the time is right to create an environmental team to meet this challenge and support our clients.

Initially, the role holder will act as an ‘intelligent buyer’ for environmental services, procuring and managing a small portfolio of sub-contract partners; however, the short-medium term vision is to deliver most of the services internally with a small team of specialists in planning, consenting and environmental management – with only niche services being subcontracted either to our existing partners or contractors. The role holder will also be involved with recruiting the internal team with the support of our HR team.

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on? It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.

Your responsibilities:

  • To represent our environmental strategy and capability to clients, where needed.
  • Bidding and delivering environmental scopes, either as standalone scopes or as part of our wider engineering projects primarily in the UK.
  • Interacting with clients to deliver scopes in line with client expectations and our own budget commitments.
  • Managing our sub-contract supply chain for environmental engineering – with support from our commercial specialists.
  • Define, build and manage our internal environmental team to meet our project requirements.
  • Support the development of our environmental reputation through external engagement and social media with suitable thought-leadership materials.
  • To coordinate and knowledge share with existing environmental capability in the company e.g. the team based in Saudi Arabia.
  • Maintain the highest levels of safety and integrity performance in line with our values.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Degree in a relevant science, engineering, or environmental subject.
  • Chartered Engineer status is expected.
  • Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and standards and aware of overseas regimes where necessary to support the company.
  • Extensive environmental experience on energy projects in the UK.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent coordination, monitoring, and supervisory skills.
  • Pro-active approach.
  • Team player.
