Job description

As part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, the VP, Development - EMEA, will report directly to the Chief Development Officer with primary responsibility for sourcing and securing growth opportunities for Auberge primarily throughout Europe as well as supporting owner relations, and portfolio and pipeline management. This role will identify and evaluate acquisition, conversion, and development opportunities for hotel and residential projects and take a lead role in structuring and negotiating letters of intent, and agreements relating to management, technical services, investments, joint-venture partnerships, financings, and residential. Additional responsibilities will include overseeing and advising on market analysis and research, feasibility studies, financial underwriting, contract valuation, and cash flow waterfalls (including debt and equity).

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships throughout the hotel and investment communities necessary to grow the EMEA portfolio.
  • Lead the initial assessment and review of projects and development partners while managing internal/external resources.
  • Negotiate letters of intent and agreements relating to management, technical services, investments, joint-venture partnerships, financing, and residential.
  • Assist owners and developers to identify and source financing for hotel acquisition or construction.
  • Oversee project feasibility, market research, project diligence, and investment analysis on acquisition, development, and management opportunities including detailed operating proformas and complex investment cash flows.
  • Prepare and present analysis to the development team and senior executives for input and approval.
  • Assist in the preparation of project summaries and critical review documents for presentation to senior executives.
  • Maintain accurate records on project information for development, residential, design, construction, and acquisition teams on active pipelines.
  • Work with Residential team to manage residential portfolio.
  • Other projects and tasks to support the development team, including design and construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Real Estate, Hotel Administration or Business; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Ten or more years of real estate development or hotel industry experience with at least five years of hotel development, preferably within luxury hotel development.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively structure and negotiate complex transactions, handle multiple projects on short timetables, and manage staff resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and capability of building lasting relationships with internal & external stakeholders.
  • Experience within investment banking.
  • Self starter and ability to source unique relationships proactively.
  • Familiarity with hotel capital structures and legal requirements.
  • Ability to think strategically, critically, and analytically.
  • Professional demeanour, capable of expressing confident, independent judgement.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel to projects, properties and home office as required.
  • Infrequent travel to industry conferences.
