Job description

School Mental Health – Bristol
Immediate Start – Full Time

Are you an aspiring Educational Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Mental Health Practitioner?

Are you interested in working with children with social, emotional and mental health challenges?

Are you a graduate or about to graduate, looking to gain experience supporting vulnerable students?

If so, then this is the role for you...

A Specialist SEN School in Bristol is looking for a Mental Health Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis, starting now or in September, depending on your availability. The school caters to students with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, including children with complex trauma and attachment disorders, as well as generalized anxiety and behavior difficulties.

As a School Mental Health Assistant, you will help support the students throughout the school day, aiding their academic learning as well as their interpersonal skills. You will follow therapeutic practice and help each child to regulate their own emotions and cope with the mental challenges they face daily. You will also provide general assistance to the class teacher and help liaise with on-site Psychologists and Therapists to ensure each child is getting the most out of their education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent Graduate (Psychology or Criminology would be fantastic) to further their experience in the mental health field. You will gain direct insight into how trauma manifests in behavior and the therapeutic and restorative practices used to help with this. This will help you build a platform for future training as a Psychologist, Therapist, or Counselor.

The School is looking for a Graduate who is open-minded, resilient, passionate about mental health, and ready for a challenge. Any previous experience working with children would be excellent, along with any experience working with additional needs. Enthusiasm and a positive attitude are most important.
