Practice Manager in GP Surgery in Dudley

Practice Manager – Quarry Bank Medical Centre, Dudley

Quarry Bank Medical Centre is a cornerstone of primary healthcare in Dudley, West Midlands, delivering compassionate and effective NHS services to a diverse patient population. As a forward-thinking GP practice, we are committed to excellence, innovation, and community wellbeing. We are now seeking an exceptional Practice Manager to lead our team, oversee all operational aspects, and ensure we continue to meet the highest standards of care within the NHS framework. This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned professional to take the helm of a respected practice and shape its future.

About the Role

The Practice Manager is the linchpin of Quarry Bank Medical Centre, responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the practice. This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires a blend of management expertise, NHS knowledge, and a passion for patient care. Your responsibilities will span multiple domains, including:

  • Operational Leadership: Overseeing daily operations, ensuring smooth delivery of patient services, and managing appointment systems, both in-person and online.
  • Staff Management: Leading a team of clinicians, administrators, and receptionists—recruiting, training, and motivating staff while fostering a collaborative culture.
  • Financial Oversight: Managing budgets, submitting claims (e.g., Enhanced Services), handling invoicing, and ensuring financial sustainability in line with NHS guidelines.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets, preparing for Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections, and implementing NHS policies.
  • IT and Systems: Overseeing practice IT systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne), ensuring data security, and optimizing digital access for patients.
  • Patient Engagement: Handling complaints with empathy, improving patient experience, and maintaining strong communication channels with our community.
  • External Liaison: Building relationships with the Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB), Primary Care Networks (PCNs), and other stakeholders to align with regional health goals.
  • Strategic Planning: Developing long-term strategies to enhance service delivery, adapt to NHS reforms, and meet evolving patient needs.

This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance day-to-day demands with a forward-looking vision. You’ll address immediate challenges—like staff shortages or IT issues—while planning for growth and resilience. Your work will directly influence patient satisfaction, staff morale, and the practice’s reputation within Dudley.

Who We’re Looking For

We seek an experienced Practice Manager with a proven track record in NHS general practice leadership. AMSPAR registration (or equivalent, such as a PMA diploma or ILM qualification) is highly desirable, reflecting your professional grounding in practice management. Key qualifications and skills include:

  • NHS Experience: Deep knowledge of GP practice operations, QOF, CQC standards, and NHS funding mechanisms.
  • Leadership: Ability to inspire and manage a diverse team, resolve conflicts, and drive performance.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise with NHS IT systems (EMIS, SystmOne) and data management.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience managing budgets, claims, and financial reporting in a healthcare setting.
  • Communication: Outstanding interpersonal skills for engaging staff, patients, and external partners.
  • Strategic Thinking: A proactive approach to anticipating challenges and implementing solutions.
  • Patient-Centered Ethos: Commitment to NHS values—compassion, respect, and improving lives.

While AMSPAR registration is preferred, we’ll consider candidates with equivalent experience or training. You must hit the ground running, bringing immediate insight into primary care’s complexities.
