Job Summary

My client, a leading business, is currently recruiting for a Buyer / Senior Buyer focused on Sustainability / ESG based in Hertfordshire (hybrid working, approximately 2 days onsite) to join on a full-time permanent basis.

Job Description

Joining a large-scale business, this role will be part of an established procurement division focused on Sustainable Procurement to reflect changes in government policy, such as the launch of the Social Value Act and Modern Slavery Act, which are now contractually binding with prime contractors across the business and must be flowed down through the Supply Chain.

Role: Buyer / Senior Buyer - Sustainability / ESG
Location: Hertfordshire (hybrid working)
Type: Permanent position
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (potential flexibility around salary DOE) + bonus + benefits

Key Responsibilities

  • Embed sustainable procurement into all aspects of the procurement lifecycle and ensure collaboration with Supply Chain, Partners, and Suppliers to improve ESG impacts.
  • Develop skills across ESG topics, with a particular focus on the Environment, to lead initiatives with supply chain partners aimed at reducing emissions targets.
  • Understand the strategic aims of Sustainable Procurement and contribute to identifying priority areas that address the challenges faced.
  • Lead initiatives to engage with the supply chain, documenting interactions and producing Case Studies or benefits cases as required.
  • Proactively manage allocated Suppliers, ensuring all data/KPI/reports are received, and work with Suppliers to agree on improvement plans where performance is below expectations.
  • Utilize existing stakeholder maps and develop a simplified SP reporting methodology to improve consistency and quality.
  • Support initiatives to engage and educate on the full range of Sustainable Procurement topics.
  • Project manage engagement events to support buying communities with opportunities to engage with new potential suppliers.

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience in, or willingness to learn about, ESG and Sustainable Procurement.
  • Adaptable and flexible in response to frequently uncertain or changing requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts simply and concisely.
  • Confident in preparing and providing reports, both verbally and in written format.
  • Strong Excel skills, comfortable managing spreadsheets and undertaking data analysis.
  • Ability to tailor outputs to meet the needs of a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Rounded business acumen and ability to engage credibly across the enterprise.
