Overview

The VP, Global Compliance and Fraud is responsible for ensuring RGA has the right policies, processes and controls by which the company will comply with all global applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Through a strategic risk-based lens, this role advocates for RGA’s compliance risks utilizing a comprehensive understanding of RGA’s strategy and business needs to provide solutions to complex problems.

Location: This is a global corporate role. Although ideally located at RGA HQ in St. Louis, the successful candidate might also be located at other key select RGA offices across Asia, in the EMEA region (London, Dublin and other offices across continental Europe), in Toronto, Canada or possibly in a remote work-arrangement in the USA. The successful candidate should expect global travel in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Works closely with Regional, Local and Departmental Compliance Officers to ensure RGA has an effective and efficient global compliance, privacy, fraud, and ethics strategy and program that manages RGA’s Compliance Risk to within our Risk Tolerance. This includes establishing compliance frameworks, processes, and procedures to ensure a strong compliance program while meeting the needs of the business.
  2. Serves as RGA’s Chief Compliance Officer and acts as an advisor to the EVP, Chief Risk Officer, and other senior leaders to assist in the analysis of trends and emerging compliance and operational risks. Responsibilities include analyzing internal and external information to determine emerging risks and trends, participating as a member of the Operational Risk Committee, and providing strategic solutions to complex compliance problems.
  3. Lead the community of RGA Compliance Officers maximizing their effectiveness through a range of activities including leveraging of work product, networking opportunities, professional development, advice and if required providing a point of escalation outside of their Business Unit reporting lines.
  4. Oversees directly, or through mid and senior level managers, activities related to second line assessment activities, global policy management, corporate and employee conduct, conflicts of interest, economic sanctions, fraud, pension risk transfer, Artificial Intelligence compliance strategy, mandatory training, as well as other risks.
  5. Collaborates with corporate functions and the business to identify compliance gaps, emerging trends, and identify solutions that meet compliance requirements, but empowers the business to accomplish their goals.
  6. Preparing and presenting clear and concise compliance reports to several risk committees and the Board.
  7. Continually assess regulatory developments and industry trends to ensure the compliance program remains current and effective.
  8. Leads and directs all activities related to the Speak Up hotline to enable workforce members and external parties to report any suspected noncompliance without fear of retaliation, leads the investigation process for compliance or ethics related internal investigations.
  9. Performs management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, developing, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development as it relates to succession planning.

Candidate Requisites:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management or equivalent experience; graduate degree in relevant field would be an asset
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in compliance, fraud risk management or related risk fields
  3. 10 or more years of management experience including management of other managers; adapts plans and priorities to meet service and/or operational changes.
  4. Identifies and resolves technical, operational, and organizational problems.
  5. Expert level ability to guide, influence and persuade others either internally or externally
  6. Expert ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.
  7. Expert analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  8. Advanced project management skills. Demonstrates ability to evaluate project objectives and scope feasibility, gain understanding, schedule resources, and manage budget to plan.
  9. Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines. Ability to quickly learn and understand the business of RGA.
  10. Insurance industry knowledge and certifications (e.g., AIRC, CCP, CCEP) are ideal assets.
  11. Experience with various compliance legislation (e.g., AML, Economic Sanctions, Fraud, Bribery & Corruption, Artificial Intelligence, etc.) is a preference.
