At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and by joining us as a Human Factors Engineer at Devonport you’ll do that by supporting nuclear and radiological safety at one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
The role
For over a hundred years, Engineers have been shaping the dockyard to ensure it supports the fleet and protects the nation. We need you to help continue this tradition as we transform, sustain and improve Devonport to meet the demands of the Royal Navy for the next hundred years.
Our Safety Engineering Team is made up of a diverse mix of skillsets, backgrounds and experiences and is looking for Human Factors Engineers at a variety of levels to support the development and implementation of modern standards safety cases that support the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme. Essential experience needed for Human Factors Engineers at Babcock:
To join us you’ll need to be qualified in an Ergonomics, Occupational Psychology, or an Applied Psychology related discipline and – depending on the level you join us at - are either chartered or able to work towards professional status with either the IEHF or BPS.
You will already have human factors knowledge and experience in working in high hazard industries that might include things such as safety assessments, human reliability analysis, an understanding of engineering design, training development, and technical report writing. For senior roles you’ll also need ability to lead and mentor a small team of people.
Lastly, you will need to possess good interpersonal skills, be competent in verbal and written communication, with the ability to interface effectively with internal stakeholders and Senior Managers.
