Child / Adolescent Psychotherapist (Self-Employed)

Location: London, SW6

Contract Type: Self-employed

Hours: Part-time. Must be able to work either 4-8pm or 5-9pm at least one weekday per week. Preference is for those who can work more than one evening each week. Weekend work also available.

We pride ourselves in offering face-to-face support in South-West London. We work with a lot of under 18s and are therefore looking to expand the team with more highly qualified Child/Adolescent Psychotherapists, ideally with specialist knowledge and expertise.

Role summary

To provide a high standard of care to our younger clients through offering individual therapy to children and adolescents. We ask our therapists to complete psychological risk assessments and to discuss any concerns with the company Director and their private supervisor as appropriate. Therapists must have an excellent understanding of safeguarding principles and be confident in managing risk effectively.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Delivering weekly therapy sessions to Vitus Wellbeing clients in person in our Fulham therapy rooms, working ethically and with the clients’ best interests in mind.
  2. Keeping accurate notes, recording risk and communicating appropriately with other members of the organisation. Must be prompt to respond to emails, be confident using online software and managing their own diary.
  3. Must be able to offer introductory phone calls to potential clients outside of core working hours at Vitus Wellbeing (within reason).

Experience, skills and knowledge required for the role

  1. Experience of working with a range of presenting issues – including severe anxiety, stress, depression and self-harm as a minimum but with a preference for applicants with wider experience - especially eating disorders and neurodiversity.
  2. Experience of working with children and/or adolescents for at least 3 years is essential.
  3. Experience of working in CBT preferred, but keen to hear from applicants who use an integrative model or other approaches.
  4. Personal experience of therapy is essential, having sought counselling independently (as part of your training or otherwise).
  5. Commitment to the mental wellbeing of your clients and willingness to liaise with external professionals (General Practitioners, Psychiatrists etc) as required, including report and letter writing and phone calls.
  6. Ability to work autonomously carrying out risk assessments on vulnerable clients and confidence in implementing safeguarding principles and procedures.
  7. Competency in using online systems – using online software for record keeping, appointment booking and emails.
  8. Ability to work at least one weekday evening and/or weekend shift per week from 4-8pm or 5-9pm, plus take calls outside of these hours (within reason).

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of a Degree in Counselling / Psychotherapy / Psychology related field.
  2. Must be registered with a professional counselling organisation.
  3. Commitment to CPD.
