Job description

MEC is a multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy, delivering services for private and public sector projects across residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education, and healthcare. Operating nationally from offices in Leicestershire, Birmingham and Brighton, we provide expert guidance across a wide range of sectors.

We’re looking for an Assistant/Graduate Flood Risk Engineer to join our growing Leicestershire team, supporting flood risk projects for a diverse client base. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise in flood risk assessments, flood modelling, and drainage strategies while working alongside our in-house infrastructure design team.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Assist with on-site investigation work such as walkovers and infiltration testing;
  • Hydrological analysis and calculations;
  • Design models, drawings and general correspondence;
  • Drafting technical reports;
  • Co-ordination with other disciplines internally, and client liaison;
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and other disciplines.

Key skills, experience and attributes required:

  • Educated to a minimum standard of Degree (in Civil engineering or other relevant subject);
  • Experience within flood risk/hydrology, preparation of flood risk assessments and drainage strategies;
  • Member of, or working towards a recognised professional qualification, such as: The Institution of Civil Engineers, CIWEM or other relevant professional body;
  • Knowledge of current legislation, drainage design standards and good practice, including Design and Construction Standards 2020, FEH, F&WMA, NHBC Standards, CIRIA 753 (SUDS Manual), NPPF, etc.;
  • Experienced in the use of Flow Causeway or Micro Drainage and flood modelling software packages such as XP Storm, Hec-Ras, Tuflow or Floodmodeller;
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD software;
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent written skills, particularly report writing and client liaison;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to present information in detail to senior management team and staff.
