Job description

Join our friendly team of Swimming Pool Attendants at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. You'll oversee the running and provide lifeguard emergency support to swimming pool users.

You'll be working outdoors in a beautiful location on site, helping to look after a much loved amenity for our staff and the local community.

You will be working as part of the Bank team, which is the name we use for our internal temporary staffing service, where you cover the shifts, days and hours that you can work.

There will be a range of shifts for you to book. You can book a shift just a few hours in advance, and up to six weeks, enabling you to take control and choose the hours you can work to suit your lifestyle.

We will accept applications from people who are already, or will turn 18 during the Pool season. The Pool season is 05/05/25 until 30/09/25.

Main duties of the job

To oversee the day to day operation of the swimming pool, ensuring that Health and Safety standards are maintained and that all pool users comply with the rules and regulations of the Pool. The pool is open to local NHS staff, their families and external users recommended by RUH staff.

Understand and comply with the pools normal operational procedure and emergency action plans.

Understand and comply with the pools risk assessments.

Person specification
  • Holder of current nationally recognised life guarding certificate (for example, NPLQ)
  • Previous pool attendant/lifeguard experience
  • Resuscitation training course attended for adults and children

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
