ROLE: Senior Buyer / Senior Planner

We’re looking for a proactive Senior Buyer / Senior Planner to take ownership of procurement, supplier management, and production planning. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a strong background in purchasing and materials control, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee procurement activities, ensuring timely placement and management of purchase orders to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Maintain and update MRP/ERP systems, ensuring data accuracy and responding promptly to exception messages.
  • Monitor inventory levels to prevent excess stock and ensure material availability for production.
  • Manage supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies and maintain accurate financial records for purchasing activities.
  • Track and improve supplier performance in terms of quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
  • Develop and manage daily production plans and customer service reports to support operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with production teams to align material availability with manufacturing capacity, preventing delays.
  • Actively participate in key operational meetings, providing insights and updates on supply chain performance.
  • Coordinate engineering changes with suppliers and manufacturing teams, ensuring seamless implementation.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in supply chain planning and purchasing.
  • At least 5 years' experience in planning and materials control, with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Hands-on experience managing ERP/MRP systems (preferably IFS).
  • Background in purchasing and planning, ideally within an industrial assembly environment, sourcing cast and fabricated metal parts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to process improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a commitment to driving efficiencies.

Education & Certifications:

  • Degree or HNC in an Engineering-related discipline, or 5+ years of experience in an engineering/manufacturing purchasing/planning role.
  • Ideally working towards full membership with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
