JOB DESCRIPTION

Midland Transport is currently seeking a full-time Operations Finance Lead based out of Head Office in Dieppe, NB. The selected candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and a "Can Do" attitude.
Reporting to the Director, Operational Excellence, the Operations Finance Lead will be a key member of our Operational Excellence team and will be working on improving Midland Operations performance, reporting, process and controls by embedding Finance and Accounting competencies within the operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reinforce safe work habits to all employees by leading through example.
  • Support safety policy and procedures, lead by example and ensure safety procedures are followed. Responsible for taking appropriate steps when these procedures are not followed.
  • Provide accurate and timely information on the terminal performance on a weekly and period basis.
  • Explain the cause of variances and highlight any risks that exist which may prevent the site from attaining its stated KPI's.
  • Monthly or as needed, forecast remainder of the year variances for production costs and overhead expenses, with focus on reduction and adjusting of negative variances.
  • Support Year End financial package.
  • Support terminal and branch managers throughout the budget process and submit by publish deadlines.
  • Support presenting and defending the needs of the operations to the executive leadership team.
  • Implement financial processes and controls and supporting information systems utilizing IMS systems including standard work.
  • Actively update, communicate and promote cost reduction opportunities for the site.
  • Advise and support leadership team on capital expenditure requests.
  • Utilize process data to drive fact-driven strategies to improve equipment efficiencies.
  • Responsible to develop the business acumen to the leadership team by educating them on how decisions are affecting financial performance.
  • Act as a resource for the calculation of savings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: University degree required.
  • Professional Accounting Designation: CPA required.
  • Experience: 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong management, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
  • Knowledge or experience with J.D. Edwards, Power BI, Cognos, and Tableau.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and technological proficiency, with the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Proven experience in leading process improvement and optimization, including process mapping and documentation.
  • Excellent ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships within the company as well as with clients.
