We have a fantastic opportunity to join our community of tech experts at DWP Digital as a Lead Site Reliability Engineer.

We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Lead Criteria: Proven track record of leading a team, mentoring junior engineers, and improving working practices.
  • Proven experience in scripting to automate processes, eliminating manual tasks, and implementing infrastructure and configuration as code.
  • In-depth knowledge of application and network protocols, including port management and certificate management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and enhance CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Strong experience in resolving complex technical incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and swift recovery.
  • Expertise in reliability engineering, including capacity and performance management through effective monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at various levels, providing valuable feedback and support.

You and your role

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer, you will be using modern tooling to oversee production systems to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our production systems. You will have a passion for operational excellence and expertise in cloud platforms, monitoring tools, and automation frameworks.

You will lead by example, providing technical direction and supporting the development and progression of SREs within your team, making digital accessible, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable.

We look to achieve this by creating scalable and highly reliable software systems and leading initiatives to develop the automation of low-value tasks balanced against project delivery demands.
