We are now looking for a Solar PV Technical Director to lead our ground-mounted solar consultancy services.

About our Solar PV Technical Director role:

You will lead Locogen’s ground-mounted solar consultancy (1-100MW), overseeing technical advisory, owner’s engineering, due diligence, performance testing, and operational assessments.

As our go-to solar PV expert, you will drive best practices, process improvements, and commercial efficiency while ensuring high-quality service delivery. You’ll also contribute to business development, thought leadership, and innovation in the solar sector.

This role offers flexibility to lead a team or act as a key Subject Matter Expert mentoring others depending on your preferred career path.

Some of the things you may find yourself doing:

  • Being the Go-To Expert for Solar Technical Knowledge: Acting as the primary technical authority on ground-mounted PV and advising on technology best practices.
  • Solar Expertise Resourcing & Team Coordination: Overseeing technical resourcing for solar projects, ensuring the right expertise is available for consultancy work.
  • Process & Best Practice Development: Own and refine technical methodologies, QA/QC processes, and efficiency improvements.
  • Capability Development: Maintain and develop solar expertise across departments, identifying skill gaps and training opportunities.
  • Commercial Alignment: Ensure services align with evolving market trends, maintaining cost-effectiveness and project budget control.
  • Industry Engagement and Thought Leadership: Represent Locogen at events, publish insights, and contribute to regulatory discussions.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Degree in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation (IET, IMechE, or similar) - or working towards it.
  • Training in solar PV design, yield assessment, and technical due diligence.
  • Competence in industry software, including PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, and GIS tools.

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, Power Systems, or similar.
  • Additional training in grid connections, energy storage, or hybrid PV systems.

What is it like to work at Locogen?:

This role can be hybrid - based in our Stockbridge (Edinburgh) office or can be remote depending on where you live. The office is dog friendly, modernly kitted out and has free parking.

We are a multidisciplinary team of friendly, innovative, and creative people who are passionate about renewable energy. We are informal, non-hierarchical, inclusive, open, and collaborative. Locogen is a place where everyone can grow and develop whilst doing innovative and interesting work.

We love what we do and believe in empowering and trusting each other to deliver. We learn from our experiences, take accountability, and hold others to account. We are client focused and inspire each other to do the best we can. We like a chat and value communication with each other and our clients. We are a social bunch so there is always something going on – we have regular organised socials and get-togethers.

Some of our benefits:

  • Flexible working hours: core hours are 10am – 4pm - if you make up your weekly hours then we don’t mind how you manage your time.
  • 30 days holiday plus 4 company closure days (25 and 26 Dec, 1 and 2 Jan).
  • Work from anywhere up to 25 days in a year.
