This is a key role within a busy NHS in-house Legal Team that deals with some of the most complex and high-profile legal work in the NHS.
Reporting to the Trust Solicitor, the post holder will have sole internal conduct of all clinical negligence claims and personal injury claims against the Trust (including public liability and employer’s liability claims). The post holder will have the ability to recognise when to escalate a situation for internal advice and external legal advice and will work closely with NHS Resolution.
The post holder will support the Trust Solicitor, Trust Barrister and Deputy Trust Solicitors to ensure that all policies, procedures and activities in relation to claims and potential claims comply with the Civil Procedure Rules, incorporating the Pre-Action Protocol, and that guidance and instructions on claims handling issued by NHS Resolution are regularly reviewed and procedures updated.

The recruitment process for all admin and clerical roles at Bands 2-4 will be a two stage recruitment process whereby shortlisted candidates will undertake an online literacy, numeracy, ICT and typing test. Only those candidates who pass the competency test will proceed to a formal interview.
Only those candidates who clearly demonstrate how they meet the person specification criteria for this post will be shortlisted. Please note that where high volumes of applicants have been received, additional criteria may on occasion be used to determine the final shortlist.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
