Job description

Childcare Apprenticeship – Level 2 – The Early Years Nursery

The Aspire Training Team are seeking a motivated, reliable and enthusiastic individual as an apprentice to complete their Level 2 Childcare qualification with The Early Years Nursery.

Ethos

Emmi Pikler (1902-1984) was a Hungarian paediatrician who introduced new ideas into infant education and applied them in practice at an orphanage she ran. Nowadays, many professionals all over the world are learning and applying the Pikler educational and developmental concepts.

The Pikler Approach is based on a respectful relationship between adults and children, developed through tender care moments, naturally paced motor development, free movement, and carefully responded to play moments.

The relationship created between the adult and the child is key. Dr. Pikler’s approach fosters a peaceful, trust-filled relationship, which is essential to her work.

The adult acknowledges the child as a free and equal human being, creating a safe space that heals separation and trauma. This means:

  1. Complete freedom of movement, valuing independent activity and free play.
  2. The importance of tactful and respectful caregiving routines, ensuring the child receives full attention from the carer, building a trustful relationship.
  3. Value of a special, favored, active relationship with the key person.
  4. Fostering the child’s awareness of themselves and their environment.
  5. Ensuring good physical health within all nursery routines to help children thrive.
  6. Providing uninterrupted time for free play using a variety of sensory resources, respecting the cues sent by the children.

Alongside this approach, safeguarding is our priority at the nursery. All staff are trained and understand their safeguarding responsibilities to the children.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Respecting the confidentiality of all information received and adhering to the nursery’s safeguarding, health and safety, and equal opportunities policies.
  • Understanding the high profile of the nursery and upholding its standards at all times.
  • Being flexible in hours and duties to meet the needs of the nursery.
  • Assisting in creating an inclusive, culturally sensitive environment that supports children’s individual needs.
  • Showing a commitment to learning by actively researching the Pikler approach, attending training, and applying trauma-informed practices under supervision.
  • Liaising with mentors and colleagues to seek feedback and guidance for continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • You must be able to gain a clear DBS.
  • GCSEs A*-C in English Language and Maths, or equivalent (e.g., functional skills).
Hours
  • The Early Years Nursery is open from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
  • The successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week, with shift patterns to be discussed.
