Are you passionate about protecting, enhancing and restoring the aquatic environment?

Our multidisciplinary Water Environment team are looking for a Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to help us leave a positive impact. We're at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. These include the Environment Agency and Natural England, Water Companies, renewable energy projects, nationally significant infrastructure projects, and many others.

Our Aquatic Ecology team operates in our Nottingham and Leeds laboratories, analysing macroinvertebrate and other samples, undertaking the full range of aquatic field surveys, and providing robust technical deliverables and services to our clients. Whilst taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model, you will be based in our Leeds, Basingstoke, Edinburgh or Nottingham office. This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to support a talented, passionate team committed to leaving a positive impact on our aquatic environment.

Here's what you'll do:

  1. Quality: Deliver consultancy and advisory services to a high level of technical quality, prioritising safety and security in all that you do.
  2. Deliver: Collect and/or process freshwater macroinvertebrate samples in the laboratory, undertaking benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, assisting with fieldwork and sample collection (potentially macroinvertebrate, macrophytes, phytobenthos, fisheries, water quality etc.)
  3. Support: Assist with the production of Environmental Impact Assessment documents in line with CIEEM guidelines. Support with data entry, analysis, and processing for freshwater projects, contributing to survey reports and ecological appraisals. Contribute to desk studies and literature reviews, data capture, collation and presentation.
  4. Collaborate: Work with other environmental specialists and disciplines on important projects, large and small.

Qualifications

Here's what we're looking for:

  1. Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, such as aquatic ecology, environmental science etc. with some previous experience in aquatic ecology.
  2. Knowledge of current environmental legislation, including the Water Framework Directive.
  3. Experience of aquatic ecology surveys - such as fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey, etc.
  4. Member of CIEEM (or similar professional body), or eligible to qualify for this status.
