Fixed term for 12 months

Salary: £49,909 - £70,425 (depends on current salary and experience)

Clinical Education Fellows are an essential and valued part of the Medical Education Team at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. This role involves working 100% of your time within medical education. Help to deliver medical education in partnership with The University of Warwick Medical School, supporting our students on their accelerated 4-year course. You will be working within a modern education facility, which includes clinical skills rooms, seminar rooms, lecture theatre and a simulation suite. In addition, you will have the opportunity to complete a funded Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education programme at the University of Warwick. This is a fixed term appointment.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  • Bedside teaching including sourcing and consenting patients
  • Delivering interactive tutorials and case-based learning
  • Running teaching clinics with volunteer patients
  • Acting as faculty for accredited courses
  • Supporting delivery of simulation opportunities
  • Supporting teaching and assessing of procedural skills
  • Taking part in student assessment and feedback delivery

Job responsibilities

The role of the Clinical Education Fellow (CEF) is to support the delivery of teaching, assessment, clinical support, and pastoral care to undergraduate students from Warwick Medical School (WMS), The University of Warwick and/or Resident Doctors from West Midlands South Foundation School (WMSFS). The CEF's time is 100% education, and they join the multi-disciplinary education faculty within the Medical Education Department at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.

Applicants must hold full GMC Registration and have recent NHS experience.

The post involves working closely and collaboratively with the permanent administration team and the clinical simulation and immersive technologies team. Flexibility, being proactive and supportive, and always expecting and being ready for last-minute timetable changes and learner needs are key requirements.

Person Specification

Qualification(s) and Professional Training

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice
  • ALS Certification
  • NHS experience
  • MRCP for ST3

Experience and Knowledge

  • Broad clinical experience within General Medicine
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the NHS
  • Experienced in demonstrating clinical procedures/techniques to other healthcare professionals
  • Experience of service development
  • Participated in completed clinical research projects

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work alongside, motivate, and support staff of all disciplines
  • Competent in basic information technology
  • Ability to supervise, deliver feedback, and mentor learners
  • Ability to design and deliver talks/lectures/workshops effectively
  • Experience of delivering clinical teaching for learners
  • Ability to demonstrate recent evidence of relevant audit or research
