Become a governor at MidKent College, supporting the provision of high-quality education and training and driving the ambitions and prosperity of our communities in a safe and inclusive environment.
MidKent College is at the heart of our community, with a serious commitment and drive to help our students, local businesses, and local economy thrive and grow through high-quality education and training.
We’re ambitious, forward-thinking and innovative, both in the way we deliver to our customers and in the way we manage and develop our people. We’re committed to being a vibrant and supportive part of our local communities and working closely in partnership with local government, public services, primary care trusts, and employers.
We achieved a ‘Good with outstanding features’ Ofsted rating in October 2024 and are confident that this reflects each department, person, and student’s continued hard work, aspirations, and achievements in aspiring for excellence.
We have three campuses: Maidstone (also home to our Institute of Technology, 6th Form Centre and Green Construction hubs), Medway, and the Medway School of Arts site in Chatham’s Historic Dockyard.
MidKent College will provide high-quality technical education and training to drive the ambitions and prosperity of the communities of Maidstone, Medway and surrounding areas. We will work in partnership to ensure our students have the skills and qualifications for the changing world of work.
We will be known as an outstanding provider of high-quality professional and technical education and training by reputation and by results. This will provide students with the skills they need for the future, raising the aspirations of the communities of Medway and Maidstone and surrounding areas. We will be the destination of choice for students, staff, parents, employers and the community. Our education and training will be delivered by skilled, passionate and inspiring industry practitioners, and we will build strong relationships with key partners to equip individuals who come to the College with skills to take their next steps in employment. To achieve this, we will operate our two key campuses in Maidstone and Medway and our subsidiary companies in a manner which ensures financial stability.
MidKent College’s Core Values are the driving force behind improving teaching, learning and assessment at the College. The purpose of our values is to set the expectations we have of our staff, students and partners.
At MidKent College, we are driven by:
These values help us to deliver learning by enabling students and staff to exhibit the right:
We want to engage a new Safeguarding Governor to join our non-executive governing body. Our expert Board, currently comprising 15 members, collectively monitors the progress and development of the College to ensure we achieve our strategic priorities. Our Governors come from various industries and backgrounds, including local authority, higher education, engineering, and financial services.
We will require you to be an expert in your field and ambitious for the College and its students, driven by our values – Resilience, Purpose, Passion, and Pride.
As Safeguarding Governor, you will work closely with Christina Hart, Executive Director for Student Services, and her team to provide support, scrutiny, and assurance and contribute to wider Governor responsibilities within the Governing Body Meetings.
For your time, energy, and expertise, we promise to ensure you receive the critical support and development you will need to succeed in this non-executive role.
We will invest in you as you are investing in us. Through our partnerships with national membership and sector-based organisations, we look forward to working with you to recognise how fundamental the further education sector is to our country’s economic development and, more crucially, to the lives of the people who study with us — regardless of their age, background, or prior learning.
We are looking to engage an experienced leader in safeguarding who can effectively support and challenge, oversee policy, monitor and evaluate performance, and ensure that safeguarding is part of the College’s culture, providing a safe and inclusive environment for all our students and staff.
You will be able to demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to MidKent College and our strategic priorities.
It would be beneficial if you have experience of, or prior exposure to, a non-executive board and can recognise the key differentiators between strategic oversight and operational delivery.
You should also have knowledge of corporate governance and how fundamental it is to an organisation’s success and sustainability.
Across all of this, we need our Safeguarding Governor to devote the necessary time to the role. It is so important to us that you can take on this public duty for the benefit of tens of thousands of students who will study and train through us over the coming years ahead.
Peridot Partners and MidKent College are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
