Job description

Hours are 37.5hrs per week to include late working on a rotation and to participate in Weekends and Bank Holidays on a rotation. Consideration will be given to candidates who wish to work on a part-time basis.


The Pharmacy Department at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for Band 3 Senior Medicines Management Assistants who will work with the Clinical Pharmacists and Enhanced Role Pharmacy Technicians providing a ward-based Service.


The roles will involve developing a medicines management service to provide high quality, efficient person-centred care and drive improvements with Medicines Optimisation.


To undertake a range of duties providing services to in and out-patients and to wards and departments including dispensing, communication with patients and hospital staff.


The post holder will work under the supervision of Medicines Management Technicians and Pharmacists. Your main duties will be working on wards carrying out near bedside dispensing, patient interview and counselling for discharge. In addition, the ward-based teams are heavily involved in the governance of medicines through a regular cycle of audits.

You are expected to work within key performance indicators as part of the service provision and show that you can work on your own initiative with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, Nursing staff, Medical staff and other healthcare professionals in line with the Trust values.


To support both our ward-based services and dispensary we use automation through our ROWA robot and automated storage cabinets at ward level. The Pharmacy utilises aspects of our EMIS/Ascribe system to automate ordering and checking wherever possible.


To support your development, local training will be provided on medicines management to the successful candidates and your development needs will be identified through an annual individual performance development review.
