Job IntroductionWe are looking for a Producer who shares our love of radio to work on BBC Radio 1 in Salford. If you love music, popular culture and radio - then we are interested in hearing from you.
Working closely with other BBC stations you will look to connect the BBC with the next generation of young audiences and be the leading voice in young UK culture.
Main ResponsibilitiesThis role is based in Salford. The successful candidate will primarily produce our Radio 1 output which airs 7 days a week. The successful candidate may also be scheduled to work across the wider pop portfolio, including pre-recorded and live titles on 6 Music and Radio 2.
Producers are responsible for creating music or speech content for live and pre-recorded programmes as well as events and outside broadcasts across the three networks. As a Producer, you're expected to collaborate with others to deliver creative ideas and shows to a brief set by Network.
- To be responsible for the development, planning and production of content on radio and a variety of digital platforms
- To make sound editorial decisions and offer advice, support and guidance to your production team, and know when to refer up to Senior Staff
- To interpret and deliver on creative briefs set by Senior Staff or Commissioners
- To effectively manage on-air presenting talent and talent relationships
- To be responsible for live broadcasts, events and outside broadcasts. This will require technical responsibility for a self-operating studio, operating portable recording equipment, excellent audio editing skills, and ensuring the sound quality is of a high standard
- To use a variety of other specialist production skills in a multi-skilled environment. This includes editing and updating website pages, photography, creating and posting social content, short-form filming, and video editing, producing sound packages and music mixing
- To be a creative self-starter with initiative, tenacity and the ability to see how your work fits in with the wider needs of the department
- To ensure all content produced by your whole team is of a first-class standard: thoroughly researched, accurate, and in keeping with audience needs and expectations
- To ensure that output produced by your whole team complies with BBC editorial, legal, technical, design and accessibility standards, and that BBC Health and Safety policy is observed
- To work effectively with other departments, suppliers and partners (internal and external), ensuring the BBC maintains excellent relationships throughout
- To direct and coordinate resources in a busy production environment
- To nurture and develop members of your production team
Are you the right candidate?- The successful candidate will be an authority on youth culture and entertainment and demonstrate an understanding, passion and knowledge of a wide range of the music featured on BBC Radio 1.
- High-quality content production skills including live radio studio operation and audio editing is essential.
- You will be driven by creativity, with strong editorial instincts and the leadership skills to spearhead a team in delivering compelling, ambitious and distinctive content for diverse audiences across the UK.
- You should be able to demonstrate a track record of working effectively in a team, developing new and existing presenters as well as delivering high impact features.
- In addition to excellent creative skills, you will be a strong communicator, have excellent planning and organisational abilities and be able to prioritise activities to meet operational deadlines.
